JODY HENDERSON
Jody Henderson (Music Teacher, Band Director Sisters School District 1996
2011) A Music Teacher On a Mission. Jody was described as the “soul of Sisters
High School during his tenure. During his time as music teacher, band director,
and choir director for students throughout the Sisters School District from
September 1996 through June 2011, Jody inspired, mentored, taught, cajoled,
influenced, and coached hundreds of students to achieve more than they ever
thought possible. Under his direction, SHS won numerous district, conference,
festival, and state titles, including 2
nd
, 3
rd
, and 5
th
place finishes in state
competitions. He encouraged students to master their crafts, ultimately leading
some students to attend some of the finest music schools in the country. Perhaps
most importantly, Jody connected with his students and motivated them to go
“above and beyond” and to leave their comfort zones. Upon his departure in 2011,
the Sisters School District Board Chairman said of Jody: “Jody was so much more
than the band teacher. He was the person who really touched kids’ lives. He made
a difference in a lot of kids’ lives. He is just an amazing person.” Jody’s influence
on students continues in Woodstock, Vermont, where he moved in 2011 to be
closer to family and where he remains band director. Not surprisingly, Jody was
named Teacher of the Year for the Woodstock Union School District soon after his
arrival in Vermont.
