GENE HARRISON
Gene Harrison is a 1955 Sisters High School graduate. While at SHS, Gene was
student body president, participated in four sports, and was selected captain of the
football, basketball, and track teams. Gene excelled in both the classroom and on
the field, track, and court he was the leading scorer and all-league football player,
all-league as a forward on the basketball team, and district champion in the hurdles
and on the relay teams. Gene attended Linfield College and joined the national
guard for six years following college. He also started teaching out of college, and
taught and coached three sports for 30 years in Sisters and Madras. Along with
teaching and coaching, Gene volunteered countless hours with young people over
his entire lifetime. Gene took students to Washington DC, started youth clubs,
built a covered wagon with his students, and generally inspired and encouraged
them to help others “paying it forward” defined his life. Gene also was a
champion trap shooter and won tournaments throughout the United States and
Canada. He always stayed connected with Sisters, and has lived his life helping
others in central Oregon and beyond.
